I fan of ours recently asked my permission to create a 3D rendering of my basement in Maya. Apparently he's majoring in animation and wants a project to keep his skills sharpened over Christmas break. Naturally, I said go for it. No telling what we can use this for, but here's a look at his progress (so far he's been using Search for Pappas as a reference...notice the cookie sheet on the bar, lol):
I sent him a complimentary copy of The Final Jerkoff so he's got some good reference for the basement's last known configuration.

That looks pretty cool actually, it looks like he managed to make the updates based on TFJ pretty quickly as well. I would have thought that would have taken longer.

Um...
They can get a lot better than this.
There are a lot of primitives in there; cylinders, boxes, no decent textures, etc...
But it's alright for a beginner using reference from video.
I hope he get's proper textures in there and puts refraction/reflection on that glass.

I'm told everything is still in the early stages. Now go get After Effects again, the work is piling up for Shenmue II and we're sure as hell not gonna do it ourselves!

now if you wanna be a huge fan of the gang... someone would create a deathmatch map of the basement.... AAAAND create skins of each of said gang members to deathmatch with.... but of course... nobody has that much time on their hands... or is that.... psychotic.

First order of business is to reply to this topic (as it is my model). This project is about to become more than just a 'thing to keep my skills up' and it's going to be a big school project now. In 11 weeks, your going to see several different versions of this model.
Yes Barry, it could get alot better. This is in pretty early stages, everything is in very low model right now. Most if not all of the models are going to change (like that ugly couch. Ugh.) while others (like the black clock) will most likely just get a texture on it.
Sadly, textures are most likely not going to happen until at least 7-8 more weeks into this. So for now your going to have to keep at (most likely) looking at grey polygons for awhile.
So Mike, if your going to check this, now that I'm on here, want me to keep sending you pictures by e-mail? I'll still be contacting you by e-mail on this.
