thanks weenie! i am also particularly proud of the entire cover arrangement (which mike did).

it took a long time, but thats because i did this all without learning the fill command.

as our dearly departed teacher silvia would say, "uuppss!"

Apologies on the delay for getting this thing out. Alls I need is 1 good day to finish up, but work has kept me on a marathon the last few weeks with graduations and weddings. Possibly done in time for Gang Fest next weekend...cross fingers.

-Mike

Wow, you did the cover without the fill command?! Now that is impressive! It takes getting used to the silver on the top and the bottom, but I guess it means it's officially is part of the Gang and not something on the side. Or at least it used to feel like it's on the side.

Don't worry Mike, at least for me I hardly have any money to be spending on another rererelease anyways.

Fill tool is overrated

It's all about layer masking

and paths/pen tool

Path and Pen tools I have used in the past mostly for tracing over images I had scanned into the computer, they had a knack for taking forever. I swear do not use laptop touch pads for graphics. Layer masking I've heard of but drawing a blank to if I had used it or what they do.

If you know how to use them well, the path & pen tools can give you a super accurate field so you don't get a halo like you do when you fill in a white area. Also you can then select that field and do shading, etc without having to erase outside the lines over and over.
Layer masking can give you the same results as placing your line art layer to multiply and coloring on a layer underneath. The only difference is that setting the line art layer to mask black, you're not altering that layer in any way..

I dunno, I haven't used photoshop in forever and actually lost it when my hard drive crashed. Now I'm stuck with Gimp which I don't know how to use :D

I'd be lying if I had said I've got a lot of experience myself, I didn't use Photoshop I had to use a program called Fireworks instead. I don't think I have used it since last year when I had to use the graphics for website layouts, getting them produced for the website itself was a pain in the ass. (The site wasn't put online, I'd post it otherwise)

I'm getting better with Photoshop but nowhere near any type of level. I figured out layering awhile ago, though still having a really hard time trying to crop stuff out so it doesn't look like I used sissiors.

Yeah, cutouts is also where the pen and paths are invaluable. Using the lasso tool with a mouse is an exercise in futility. If you need to cut something away from the background or vice-versa, it's really really really worthwhile to learn how to use the pen tool and bezier curves.

http://www.melissaclifton.com/tutorial-pentool.html

That's a good tutorial for cutouts.
