I'm glad that the ending at least surprised you. I can't help but think that thing that all douchebag nerd superfans think about book/movies that the book is better and should be read before seeing the movie.
But there's definitely merit in reading the book anyway. You get MUCH more back story on ALL the characters (except Osterman... I think they got everything, there... and the Comedian too). Also, it's fun noticing where they used a specific line or panel, or noticing what parts they omitted entirely... or added.
