I have yet to see anything in IMAX. Having a regular theater down the block is just too convenient. Looks like we're doing the midnight show tomorrow night.

Also, thou must learn the difference between the General Gang forum and the Stuff forum in terms of subject matter...

My roommate and I were gonna go at midnight since I have Friday off, but it turned out I have to close on Thursday which would take til 12:30 at least, and I WAS gonna try to leave early but it ALSO turns out I am training the new new girl how to close that night.... hff. So Me, my roommate, Dan and his roommate are all going to see it Friday afternoon.

Laaame. But I'm super pumped. I saw a trailer on TV tonight with all Silk Spectre I/II parts and I can't freakin wait to see the Mars scenes... and the rape. And the super awesome Nite Owl Antarctica gear. And lil' Rorschach.

Me and my sister is going to be watching it sometime on Friday, don't know when. Sister forced me to reread Watchmen before the movie so I'm interested. Hopefully we find some tickets...I don't think we'll watch it in iMAX thought. I have seen iMAX before thought, with Speed Racer.

It could be another week two tops before I see it, too much going on this weekend and i'm determined to get Resident Evil 5 next week and there's been enough finanical set backs due to people's birthday's. Last thing I saw at the cinema was My Bloody Valentine (3D of course).

It's also been a few years since my last IMAX experience, mostly documentaries whilst in the States. (Space Kennedy, somewhere not far from Grand Canyon) One other doc in London and a more fun CGI 3D film which was a bunch of shorts, a clip from Antz and almost a third of a Simpsons Halloween episode (Homer3) and stuff in some kind of futuristic video art gallery.

Update- Month later and the first and last chance I had to see it I was too late, last being that it started too late the following week and they just stopped showing it well at least at any of the ones I go to.... ah well DVD it is then.

Didn't watch it in IMAX, but we had to sit really close to the screen so it's close enough. Got to say, if you love the novel and can't see it changed in almost any way, you're going to love this movie.

By the way, I cried during the opening credits for some reason...

I think the opening credits were my favorite part. I dunno why, but I really love/am fascinated by the Minutemen and their lives... I forgot to mention but I really love Silhouette and her story, tragic as it is, and I LOVED the scene with her kissing the nurse after WW2. And the shot of Sally pregnant and Mr. Metropolis and HJ sitting together.. (it is VERY SUBTLY hinted that they are gay in the extra material in the GN). Then Mothman being carted away... Dollar Bill shot down...

WARNING SPOILERS jic I haven't spoiled anything already...

I was pretty disappointed they didn't show Hollis Mason's murder because that was one of the most moving parts for me in the GN... and then Laurie and Dan taking Hollis as their last name in the aftermath as tribute. Oh well.

I laughed uncontrollably during the sex scene. Hallelujah? Come on.

I'm just gonna keep posting replies as I think of stuff.

So, the changed ending. I kind of buy it because the whole psychic-wave-emitting alien was ridiculous to begin with, and they avoided having to go into the subplot of the geneticists and what happens to them. But then on the down side, we only get to see Bubastis like twice, and he was cool... But making Dr. Manhattan the common enemy seems more natural, actually.

My one major complaint is in the casting for Ozymandias. Not only was he mysteriously British (?) he was LITTLE. He's supposed to be the love-child of Alexander of Macedonia and Rameses II and lord if his shoulder pads didn't jut out more than Murphy Brown's... I mean really? This guy threw 290-lb Jeffrey Dean Morgan out a plate glass window? Really?

On that note, he was great as The Comedian. I was really impressed.

Blue. Penises.

The SPOILERS tag is much needed for this post.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The very few changes from the graphic novel was fine changes to me. Like you said, the whole alien thing was stupid though it made sense in the novel, it just toke me a bit of time to take in the change of it being Jon than an elien. And the changing of the final lines and where Dan and Laurie looks like they were still dating.
I was wondering about Bubastis. Why does it feel like we only saw him during that final part? We could've saw him in the office somewhere...and same complaint for me with Ozymadias. I really didn't like how he was more like Robin's sidekick (by his size that is) than like a 40 year old dude. I was also disappointed by how evil like he was althought the movie. I remember reading the graphic novel and didn't really figure him out to be the badguy(?) until the final two chapters. I was disappointed he didn't go "I did it!!", I really loved that scene in the original.
Oh yeah! That sex part! I hid back my laugh, but I can tell my sister almost laughed too. It was pretty funny because for me of how long it was...and how short the scene with Laurie and Jon during their chat on Mars.
But I did love that they were able to show in the sets of the places what does happen in the novel, like during the flashback when laurie was young at the start of the movie and we see the snowglobe. Or how we see the copies "Under the Hood". The sets were really great.
Me and my sister was both really impressed by almost all the spot on movie versions of the characters. Even some of the smaller roles, like the news stand was great and I'm pretty glad they didn't keep cutting away to the small parts (even if it gives more character to the place they were in).
My fav. part was the opening credits, but it was also during Dan's introduction when he sits down next to the NiteOwl II costume. That was one of my fav. shots in the graphic novel, and it was beautiful in the movie too.
Fact is, during halfway of the movie, to me it was so close to the graphic novel with the same look, camera, lines, that it was almost boring.
just got back from the IMAX screening. I was impressed. A long movie, but overall a great entertaining flick. I didnt read the whole GN so I didnt know how it ended. But to me it was logical of Ozzie making the sacrifice to save the world. It does seem harsh but like he said, sacrificing millions to save billions in the end does make sense.
Dr Blue Balls. That made me laugh. of course who couldnt help but chuckle. But ya he definately kicks ass. Alongside Rorschach in the prison scene was wicked.
Oh yeah! During the prison scene, when Rorschach said "I'm not locked here with you, you're locked here with me.", everyone cared in the theater.
i saw it twice, friday with girlfriend and sunday on imax with dad.
i was never bored for any part of those 6 hours.
i liked it more than the comic. soft core porn much? the whole halleujah thing made me lawl too.
also im glad they didnt wuss out and dismiss one of the most important side characters - dr manhattan's blue dong. a 4 hit combo at one point!
anywho, if i have one gripe about this incredible movie its the abuse of symbolism and motifs. i know its tongue and cheek to begin with but the comedians door? the 1 gets knocked off so it reads 300? come on...
YES and what the fuck was up with the actor that played adrian? i thought he had more of a german accent. then i tried to remember if that was part of the comic...like he pretended to be american to the press but he was really a nazi.
also...if you look closely, when night owl finds the file on adrian's computer that incriminates him...theres another folder on the top right thats labeled "boys"
LOL GAY
EDIT: also my favorite scene (aside from the sweet rape scene) was when walter kills the child murderer. however, i liked how he kills him in the comic a bit more. he leaves him chained to the furnace and lights his house on fire. fyi. fucking awesome.
i think framing Dr. Manhattan made much more sense than the giant squid. props to whoever wrote the screenplay. i'm hoping whenever the dvd comes out it will have a lot of deleted scenes. i'm sure he had to cut a lot for time.
Then most pops to David Hayter for the two early versions of the script.
I'm with you Tyler, I like the flaming child murderer/rapist(?) more than the hit thing, even if that was bloody and nice. Just the idea of him burning while he's still alive is so much more sweet.
Oh yeah! I noticed that "boys" thing too, I wasn't sure what was up with that. Also, I was wondering why did the guys with Adrian in the space station were killed and then being zipped by that thing? I mean I know why they died, but I'm not too sure about that 2nd part...
I was also very happy to see Dr. Manhattan's penis, for reasons because it wasn't in the trailers and I thought he was just going to wear a thong the whole time (or whatever it was). We also didn't get too much of an explanation of why Rorschach's face was a rorschach, but it was fine as we didn't really need it. Still, it was great seeing that doc.
Ok I know how old this topic is but just finally watched it. Having never read the comic I can't give it the same kind of response you guys had but I'm sorry to say this but it was kinda overrated, as hard as I tried I just couldn't see the hype.
I'm not saying that I thought it was shit, I've seen MUCH worse on the comic book adaption front. There were great performances from the actors and the special effects were cool, but it was kinda boring at the start and I could not made sense of allot of it. But it did get better as it got going and the ending cool and surprising which in the end made it worth while and did eventually enjoy the film.
It was dark, gritty and disturbing film but for the hype I have to say was expecting much more.
